Intervention Program for English-Language Arts and Mathematics

Action Learning Systems’ Learning Tree™ intervention program is designed to provide elementary and middle school teachers with the tools they need to close the achievement gap.

Each Learning Tree™ sequence uses the Reciprocal Teaching Process to provide instruction, interactive practice, and self-assessment.

Elementary and Middle School English-Language Arts
The Learning Tree™ intervention program in English-Language Arts is based on scientific research on reading and writing and is fully aligned with the requirements of Reading First. This sequential, interactive program uses engaging texts and proven comprehension and writing strategies to help students understand and apply literacy skills.

• Each of the four, 30-hour elementary English-Language Arts intervention courses focus on decoding, fluency, reading comprehension, writing strategies, and writing applications.
• Each of the three, 30-hour middle school English-Language Arts intervention courses focus on fluency, reading comprehension based on expository text types, writing strategies, and writing applications.
• Each Learning Tree™ intervention course includes multiple instructional sequences that are based on specific organizational patterns, including cause-effect, time-sequence, and more.

Middle School Mathematics
The Learning Tree™ intervention program for Mathematics is a powerful, high-yield program geared to middle school students. This balanced, sequential program is research-based and aligned to middle-level Number Sense and Algebra content standards. The program is designed to develop conceptual understanding, computation skills, and problem-solving strategies. Student participation is encouraged through the use of targeted learning strategies, classroom manipulatives, and interactive practice.

• Each of the two, 30-hour Number Sense intervention courses focuses on basic computational skills and mathematical concepts.
• Each of the two, 30-hour Algebra and Functions intervention courses focuses on mathematical reasoning, logical relationships, and unknown values.
