Action Learning Systems announces the EXIT™
CAHSEE Prep Course

Standards-Aligned English-Language Arts and Mathematics Courses Now Available
SACRAMENTO — August 4, 2006 — Action Learning Systems has announced that EXIT English-Language Arts and Mathematics curriculum materials are now available to high schools throughout California, enabling students to prepare for the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). The CAHSEE is a two-part exam that tests middle school level math and algebra and ninth and tenth grade English skills. The exam was made a graduation requirement starting with the class of 2006.

EXIT is a series of comprehensive, multi-week instructional sequences designed to help students apply test-taking strategies while developing solid reading, writing, and problem-solving skills. EXIT provides flexible delivery options and is built on the content standards that students must master to be successful. EXIT can also provide preparation and re-teaching for students who have previously failed the CAHSEE. California Assembly Bill 128 allocates $600 per student for CAHSEE intervention for students who have failed one or both parts of the exam.

“This course does so much more than just teach students how to take a test,” said Kit Marshall, president of Action Learning Systems. “The EXIT coursework helps students master the standards that are tested on the CAHSEE. The skills students learn to apply through this prep course will help them succeed in other content areas and assessments.”

Designed to Increase Success on the CAHSEE
A team of teachers and curriculum specialists identified the key California content standards that students must master for CAHSEE success. These key standards are embedded into all EXIT course materials. EXIT was then field-tested in a statewide pilot program with a representative sample of California students in urban and rural areas. The course was analyzed and refined to ensure it reflected students’ mastery of the standards tested on the CAHSEE.

Many students have already benefited from EXIT. A math teacher in one of California’s largest school districts has used EXIT with whole groups and individual students. “The material you guys produced really paid off. My second period class had a 70% passage rate. I am a believer in your system.”
